About This Spot

Stepping into Margaux feels like entering a thoughtfully curated retreat where the energy gracefully shifts between a bright, productive café and an intimate, refined cocktail bar. Nestled in East Liberty, this spacious spot balances modern design with a comforting warmth—an urban oasis filled with natural light, lush greenery, and varied seating that invites both lingering over a morning espresso or settling in with a laptop for focused work.

By day, Margaux offers a gentle hum of activity, a place where the ritual of coffee becomes something almost tactile. The aromas of freshly pulled espresso mingle with the soft clinking of cups and casual conversation, creating a rhythm that’s both calm and energizing. Whether you’re drawn by the appeal of a cortado or the comforting creaminess of an almond milk cappuccino, each sip feels deliberate, part of a quietly cherished morning moment. The menu’s thoughtful touches—avocado toast with vibrant beet carpaccio, or the subtle spice in their croquettes—invite exploration without overwhelming, adding layers of flavor that complement the coffee with a European sensibility.

As afternoon fades to evening, Margaux subtly transitions. The daylight softens, and the bar awakens with a curated selection of European pale lagers, fragrant spritzes, and rich, nuanced cocktails that coax conversations to a slower, more intimate pace. The space holds a refined yet unpretentious elegance, where friends might toast over a glass of wine or unwind after a workday, cocooned from the city’s rush.

What makes Margaux special is this fluidity—its ability to be a lively yet serene refuge, welcoming early risers and night owls alike. The atmosphere fosters human connection, whether sparked by a shared smile at the bar or the silent camaraderie of neighbors quietly working side by side. It’s not just a coffee shop or a wine bar; it’s a thoughtfully layered experience that feels both personal and effortlessly stylish, a rare kind of place where every visit can feel like a small discovery.

I started coming to Margaux a couple of weeks after they opened, and it has not disappointed a single time since. The quality of the regular drip coffee is what I would expect from an expensive pour-over at other places; I'd put their coffee up against the very best NYC shops any day. The atmosphere is like nothing else, somehow a mix of a nice cocktail bar and a productive co-working space in one. And the staff are so friendly (even staff on their first or second day!) that every other barista seems dour in comparison. I've spent an embarrassing amount of my time and money in coffee shops all over the world and Margaux is among the very best.

What a magical place. Lovely modern-but-cozy atmosphere. Great cocktails, delicious brunch, and some of the best espresso I've had in Pittsburgh (make sure to ask for the single origin espresso!).

Margaux in East Liberty is a stylish and inspired hybrid of a European café and cocktail bar. By day, it’s the perfect spot to sip on a specialty coffee while lounging on cozy couches—ideal for getting work done or hosting a relaxed meeting. By night, the space transforms into a sophisticated cocktail bar, perfect for a night out. I recently stopped by to try their seasonal café menu and was seriously impressed. The root beer espresso float was insane—made with house-made sassafras root beer and oat milk cold foam infused with coffee and caraway. It was simple, caffeinated, and tasted just like a classic root beer float with a grown-up twist. The sage latte was whimsical and beautifully crafted, with a subtle floral essence that lingered perfectly. I also had a croissant, which was flaky, light, and absolutely delightful. I can't wait to go back and experience the nighttime vibe at Margaux. If the cocktails are anything like the coffee, it’s going to be a standout spot.

I wanted to give it a perfect rating, so bad, but the coffee was a letdown. Margaux is one of the prettiest cafe in pittsburgh, if not the prettiest. It is large, spacious, modern, full of natural light, and has plenty of seating options + free wifi. it also has a wide variety of indoor plants which gives it a very urban jungle vibes. You go out to the cash register and order there. They hand you a number and then bring you your food and drink. This basically means you don’t have to wait at the counter for your drink to be ready and can go chill instead, which is pretty cool. I visited on Monday morning, and it was pretty full. Most people were either just working from there or having meetings. The crowded the cafe seemed a little bit more posh compared to the other cafes. I have visited. For the first round, I got a cappuccino, which was average. I also got the chicken toast, which is an open face sourdough with generous serving of chicken salad. The toast was amazing. They did not skimp on the quantity of chicken as the flavours and textures were on spot. For my second round, I got an almond croissant, which was again pretty average and a latte, which was very disappointing. The latte was watered down, and the coffee flavour was extremely weak. It felt like I was drinking milk with a little bit of coffee. Honestly, don’t get lattes here. Next time I might want to try the pour over.

I thought the coffee was excellent, a second visit confirmed this. Wasn’t loving the croissant, one of those bready ones. Maybe that’s just me. Still my go-to in east liberty.

Margaux is a gorgeous space with lots of natural light. Very peaceful, a great atmospheric place to get work done. Delicious Honey Lavender Lattes and Chicken Salad toast.
